AJ – I found the game. It was on the Zoom site and it is called Goldburger to Go. It is a fun game where you build a contraption. The idea behind this comes from Rube Goldberg who would draw these contraptions that were really complicated to do a simple task. I linked it in the GAMES post I just wrote. I’ll write a post just on Rube Goldberg – there are some interesting places on the web….have a look at it.

FYI – the FCAT Science Vocabulary – the glossary is in 2 places. 1st in the list of links on the right side of every page – “FCAT Science Glossary” and also in the “FCAT” page on the top menu (top of page) – next to “moon base eagle” page….

See comment number 7 above for how to find the glossary. I sent a copy to your e-mail too.
Don’t forget to READ THE QUESTION – really figure out what is being asked! Also, remember you live here on EARTH and live all the topics in the Science FCAT — SO USE COMMON SENSE!

Hi Brandon and Manuela,
I’m glad you are starting to think about a project. Brandon – I emailed your Mom some musical ideas to get you started.
Manuela – the habitat idea sounds interesting, but how are you going to measure a result – you can’t quite interview a worm and expect an honest answer as to which it likes better
…. If you want to see which it prefers I can loan you or you can make a “choice box” and you can give the worm a choice and see where it ends up. You would need several worms (like 10 all around the same size, I can loan those to you too – if you promise to treat them well!). Sounds like a fun idea!

Hi Sophia,
A solar oven project sounds like a brilliant idea! How about doing something with oven design? Maybe change the shape, size, color, or material (pick one) and measure the temperature (remember to use Celsius!). Have a s’more for me :-O!

Sophia,
You need to give me a chance to read and respond before posting again !
Download the “Science Experiment Data Sheet” for a sample of how to phrase your experiment idea into a question (problem statement) – remember we did this in class before — use the format “When I change ____________, what happens to ___________? ” In your case, the “when I change” is whatever you are change to improve the solar oven and the “what happens to” is the temperature. For the hypothesis use the format “If I use _______ then the temperature will be higher because _______”. Or “I think ___________ (make sure you mention something about oven design AND temperature) because _______.”

Sophia,
That is an idea, but how are you going to measure the amount of sun the solar oven is getting? Think about it, there might be a way to adjust the angle of the lid or cover it partially in some way.
